Cancelations and Absences
We appreciate as much notice as possible when you are unable to attend a lesson. Unfortunately, we cannot offer makeup lessons for missed classes, this is due to the space being reserved for the student which we would not be able to fill.
Practice and Progress
To improve drumming skills learned in lessons, we suggest that students practice for a minimum of 10-15 minutes three times a week. It’s optional to have a drum kit at this stage; a makeshift kit can be created at home using cushions, pans, or Tupperware boxes to develop essential coordination and timing. I recommend using rice in a lunch box or a tin to produce a sound similar to a snare drum. Additionally, I recommend practising along with the music as much as possible since this will help develop good timing.
Drum Kit
If you need advice on purchasing a drum kit, please feel free to contact me. I strongly recommend opting for a second-hand kit as it offers excellent value for money. Wooden or acoustic drum kits are more popular and can be made quieter with practice pads. Electric kits are also a good option, but some students may lose interest as they offer a different experience than acoustic ones. It’s best to avoid electronic drum pads as they are simply overpriced toys that quickly lose their novelty.
Learning Disabilities
To ensure the best possible delivery of our lessons, it would be greatly appreciated and extremely helpful if we could be informed of any learning disabilities a child may have.
